Our Work
Partnerships between the Munford High School Veterinary Science Department and the Tipton County Animal Shelter have resulted in many programs to benefit our community and the pets that live in Tipton County. Partnerships take advantage of student workers and grants made available to secondary education. We have spayed/neutered 5756 Cats in Tipton County since opening in April 2017.

Tipton County Pet Food Pantry - Opening Fall 2024
Tipton County Animal Shelter will partner with the Pet Compassion center in Memphis, Tennessee to provide a pet food bank in our communities. The Covington High School will serve as a distribution center for pet food. Students will be involved in transporting pet food, distribution, and counseling pet owners about nutirtional needs.
Students Helping Students - Spring 2024
Students helping students is a program with the Munford Veterinary Science Department that works with students with special needs and economically disadvantaged students to provide low cost or free spay neuter services. Student need is identified in the school. Once student need is identified guardians are contacted to set up pet for surgery. Pet receive rabies vaccination, a free microchip, spay/neuter services and de-worming. Veterinary Science students intake pets, and serve as technicians on surgery day. The Tipton County Animal Shelter provides rabies vaccinations and hepls to transport animals to the clinic.


Middle School Veterinary STEM Camp Summer 2023
The middle school Veterinary Science STEM Camp helps to educated middle school students about responsible pet ownership. STEM activities are centered around shelter kittens and include developing an adoption campaign, engineering kitten enrichment toys for shelter kittens and concludes with a surgery day where kittens are spay and neutered.
Healing Hearts - Fall 2024
Healing Hearts is a community program for dogs in Tipton County, Tennessee, to treat, manage, and prevent heartworm disease in dogs. To qualify for the program the dogs must live in the zip codes 38049 and 38019. For a cost of $50 dogs will receive a veterinary exam, a rabies vaccination, a microchip, heartworm test and a year's supply of heartworm prevention. Services will be provided at Covington High School Wellness Clinic in cooperation with the Tipton County Animal Shelter.
