If it excites you and scares you at the same time, it might be a good thing to try.

Today, is the first day of my new path in life as a graduate student at the University of Florida Veterinary School in the Shelter Medicine program. To say I am nervous is an understatement. I'm a bit intimidated since I am not a DVM. I am very excited and want to learn about my shelter medicine passion and want to improve the conditions of our local shelter. I have been working with our local Tipton County Animal shelter for the past 6 years as a high school agriculture teacher teaching veterinary science courses. Our school has partnered with the animal shelter to build a spay/neuter clinic for shelter animals. The clinic is staffed by high school students with an interest in Vet Med. We have 3 cooperating veterinarians that work with our program. There is so much room for improvement in our clinic and shelter, and I look forward to learning this semester.
